Fort Flagler State Park

This park is one of the Triangle of Fire parks near Port Townsend, Washington. Fort Flagler, along with Fort Worden in Port Townsend and Fort Casey on Whidbey Island, protected the entrance of Puget Sound from attack from the late 1800’s until around World War Two, when one by one they got decommissioned. Throughout the 1950’s, the Washington State Park system bought them up and turned them into state parks.

This weekend trip was a last minute one, being booked early in the week for the following weekend. We got the very last available campsite, site 17. The weather was good, and was not too warm or cold, being the middle of June. On Saturday, we went out into the park to do some exploring before heading back to the campsite. We have been here a few times, but every time find something new.

For families or military buffs, this is a great park to go to. There is lots to see and do, and you will not have any bored kids. During the summer months, there is a small store that is open on park grounds near the beach. During the winter, the nearest store is the small store you pass going onto Marrowstone Island.
