Kopachuck State Park

Located a tad west of downtown Gig Harbor, Washington, this is a day use state park. Many years ago, this state park use to have a campground, but it was shuttered temporarily in 2011, and eventually permanently in 2014 due to laminated tree rot. While at the park, you can still walk through the campground along with the day use areas of the park, but overnight stays are no longer allowed. Some of the campground structures were still present when these pictures were taken in 2019, but over the summer (my pictures were taken in June of ’19) the restroom structure was torn down, and over time other bits and pieces were removed also.

I doubt the park will ever reopen its campground, but it is an enjoyable park to come to, since I live in the area. Although it may not be maintained as well as it use to be prior to 2011, it still has its charms. I come here occasionally to walk my dog and to get out of the house, so for this purpose it serves its purpose.
